I guess better late than never in terms of most things,blog-post-writing included. Somehow I keep finding my life filled with stuff to do,that are not art related-just traveling time to and from the various places I am supposed to be at is,ahem, time consuming. Anyways, I really REALLY enjoyed having Josh model for us again last Saturday-he is so awesome! It really makes a world of difference having an inspiring, sensitive and giving model.
So what has been going on? Etsy site=not yet; fun filled evening at my first Mardi Gras Party, with a fabulous outfit and amazing face paint by my darling, Cameron Pfiffner=YES!; enjoying the hell out of drawing these days=yes! enough so that I actually am looking at work of other
(oh,yes, here is the spot for an aside…follow the asterisk). I really enjoyed looking at the book we have of Heinrich Kley-such a responsive and animated style he has-it gives me the feeling of calligraphy.Of course, Egon Schiele is always nice to look at and makes me want to experiment with color-washes,possibly some pastels……. I also love Otto Dix and his many different ways of expressing himself through drawing. So many things to look at,enjoy and be inspired by. I have no clue, yet,as to how these inspirations will actually manifest themselves in my own work, but I guess time will tell.
What will this week bring? Well, making some Faschingskrapfen is on the agenda-yummy,cannot wait! Meeting with Paul Crisanti about a project of his that includes interviewing me-ha, I admit to being nervous about that part of my week, but also excited.Payback time for all those moments when I asked my dancers to just “improvise” or “add their interpretation of x”……. it sounds suspiciously like Paul and I are to co-create this project of his. I am super excited about Arnett’s and my behind-the-scene tour of his favorite natural history museum-that will be fun, I am sure! I have also committed myself to finally starting to paint backdrop to the pagan advent calendar that has been in the works for, hmm,a mere two years-cheers to procrastination!
And then,of course, more drawing this weekend! Busy? ;p
*( So,here’s the aside: while figure modeling I always cringed when teachers would use the word “drawers” instead of “draughtsmen/women”. I mean that couldn’t possibly be the correct word for denoting a person who draws! Well, finally I decided to look it up in a dictionary and lo and behold, one actually can use the word “drawer” in that context. Now ,granted, this might not come as a surprise to some readers, but it sure was surprising to me. All of my snootiness vanished in a billow of humility and I decided what more fitting name for my blog. I still do not like the sound of calling someone a “drawer”,but hey….I don’t have to like it!)
